Week of January 8, 2012

Corban's email: "Well, first things first.

I had a baptism this week, it was Wednesday. we had a wedding first and a baptism in the night. we baptized two people a husband and wife. it was really cool, how they had come to change there lives to dedicate themselves to the church and the lord. second, i got two more packages this week, one from Jeanette and one from dad! thank you for the goodies and treats that i got and the foto book! it was really weird to see pictures of fat Corban, and Jeanette you put my motivation picture on the cover of the book, thank you! now i have motivation to start doing more exercise in the morning! lol, and the treats from dad, gotta love them reeses pieces, and my companion loved every second of em too. oh by the way, i have a Samoan companion, well. his dad is Samoan, and his mom is from Hawaii she is of Asia descent, which is cool, he is a little shorter than i am, but i think people are afraid of us when we walk in the street, kinda weird to have a north American companion again, who actually speaks fluent English, needless to say we have been speaking a lot of it. well, im happy that everyone of you are doing well, and i want to personally congratulate Casey Cantor for her wedding, éxito en su matrimonio!
pero por favor deje de tener hijos por un gran tiempo. por lo menos, despues que yo estoy en los estados, gracias. well, with that note I'm out of here, I'll shot you guys a new email next week, love you all!

Week of January 1, 2012

Hard to believe that Corban has been gone 1 year now with one more to go. I can remember this time last year thinking my baby was leaving and it would be such a long long time before I would see him again. But here we are a year later and time has flown by. He has changed areas

Corban's email: "hey i changed areas!

I'm now closer to Argentina than i am Brazil! que beuno no! well, I'm going to let you all know that it is beautiful here in yacuiba, which is the farthest south that i can go in Bolivia, and yes i am happy to be here. i had a good new years full of wonder and awe, fire works. and i was thinking about each and every one of you. well, i formally want to congratulate you Casey, happy wedding day this Saturday, sorry i cannot be there Mrs. Cantor. other than that i will try and send some pics next week, so i love you all and will talk to you later.

Week of December 25, 2011

It was a highly anticipated Christmas for us as a family...for one reason many members of the family were going to be together and we were going to be able to talk with Corban. Corban was able to talk to most members of the family on Christmas. It was funny to here him struggling and having to put a lot of thought into speaking English! Oh I think his high school Spanish teacher Mrs. Mannix would be proud. I get an email from Corban weekly and he knows that I love and support him, so I felt it was really important that he talk to all the many family members on Christmas because he knows how I feel and he needed to hear that from everyone else. It was a really good call I thought and he sounds great! So here is his day after Christmas email.

Corban's email:
"Feliz Navidad!!! well, i hope that everyone had a good Christmas, all fattened up for the new years eve parties, don't do anything a missionary of the church wouldn't do. lol im just kidding that is just about everything you cant do. lol. i was happy to talk to you to those that had the opportunity, hope that i will be able to have the privilege to talk to you guys in person. well, im gonna keep this one short, but i had a good day yesterday, i will talk to you guys next week. love you all.

Week of December 4, 2011

Alot of times just the statements in the subject line say alot about what is going on with Corban during any given week. this weeks subject line..."Hello there, angels in my nightmare, shadows in the background of the morgue... Dont waste your time on me your already a voice inside my head.... i miss you....."

Corban's email: " heeeeeellloooo there!
i hope all your youngins know the subject quote, its a goodin. well, i would like to tell everyone, Hello... and im doing fine, i hope that everyone is getting ready for Christmas, because it is coming fast. its kinda strange to think that i have almost been out here for a year now. which is also strange. but im really loving the work, i was thinking to myself the other day that im kinda scared to go back to the states and start real life over again. and to have to speak English, who wants to do that one. well, i hope that you all will find this message in good cheers. i had and interesting week, gotta love that rain, and those tarantulas. yeah im starting to see a lot, but i always don't have my camera when i see one, you know that trick where you say, "if you hand is bigger than you face you have cancer" that always reminds me of these huge spiders. cause some are bigger than my face, and im not sure if they can give me cancer, but they can sure pack a punch. lol. well, anything else interesting. not really, just busy trying to help this family progress to baptism, they are really well, they just need to get married is all. and that is money and commitment. and they are more afraid of commitment. but seriously, they are all muy bueno. well, other than that, i have to say that the family that i eat lunch with everyday reminds me of our family back home, "we put the fun in disfuncional" they are just about the same, always gritando, y doing everything necessary to make havoc. well. just an example, the dad was talking to the son. the son said, yeah you shouldn't drink cerveza, then the dad said, who are you to talk you don't have a job and you cant even read... i was balling laughing so hard. you just had to been there in the moment. well, sorry don't have any pictures this week, ill try and take some pictures of dead spiders. to show how big they are. or alive ones, if i can catch one, which would be awesome. well, i love you all. have a good week.

Week of November 27, 2011

With the Thanksgiving Holiday his email was rather short and sweet this week. Corban's email: "just letting you all know that i had a good thanksgiving and was thinking abot you guys here. well, i have to make this short, but i love you guys and i will talk to you later. will try and send some pics next week.

Week of November 20. 2011

Corban's email:" hello everyone from a distant land, where the missionarys tan. and you can do anything you can,

well, im bored this week so i think i might try and write a little longer than i usually do. well, im not sure if you have all heard, well, you havent because i got transfers this week. but... im still in the same area. yep thats right, in the same area. will be 6 months in total. but im tranquilo. nothing to sweat about, only the heat. and humidity. lol. well, im not really sure why im still in this area, but it is nothing out of the ordinary. if you leave the city of santa cruz you can be out of the city for 6-8 monthes. so im pretty content with as of now 4-5 that i have. im looking forward to this cambio, have a new companion so lets hope things go well, with him. and still trying to help a family of 4 get baptized. well, that is really about it for now, the rain should start about any time now, the say it usually starts in october, but we only had about 3 days of reallly heavy rain, so im expecting to get really wet here soon. i know, sí o sí that it will start in enero. but that is a little bit away. about a month and a half. well, how are the states doing? doing well, is it cold, do you wanna come to a place where it gets above 104 degrees without humidity? (you can add the 110% humidity factor) just dont complain alright im not really sure what it feels like to not sweat my body weight every day. lol, im still cheery and ready to talk with everyone in about a month. looking forward to that one. well. hope that everyone is going to have a wonderful thanksgiving, just remember to think of me, and if you want, sit down and write me an email that day, i would certainly appreiciate it. well, i love you guys, keep it real and safe.

love, corban"

Week of November 13, 2011

I have decided that I spend way too much time making Corban's email internet friendly..so from now on you get what I get and figure out the translations your self! The longer he is there the worse his English is getting...wouldn't his Spanish teacher be proud!!

Corban's email: "hello from the south! south south...
how are you all doing, i feel weird writing in English.... but i would like to tell you all that i am doing well, i am still in guayaramerín, but that could change as of Thursday, cross your fingers that i go somewhere cool too, maybe brasil. wouldn't that be swell. would like to show you all the normal elder schafer en pday. im standing on the border of a river that separates Bolivia and brasil. muy chevre si? well, im doing well not sure if im dropping weight still, ill let you guys be the judge of that one. people tell me all the time tha the picture of me in the offices is my ¨hermana hemelo¨ or my twin brother, who is gordo, (fat) lol, yeah they really dont have any censorship here like they do in the states, they just tell you straight up if you are fat or not. there are little gorditos who run around, and that means little fat boy. gotta love those bolivianos. well, as far as that stands i hear that you all are going to have a good Christmas, if you guys want to reunir en el mismo lugar, and im gonna ask my presidente if i can have two sessiones of the same time since my parents are divorced. 45 and 45 mins. wouldn't that be sweet. well, i love you all im doing well, and loving this place. don't worry, ill be back in no time so keep it cool, dont seat it. yeah? because im sweating a ton. lol. i love you all and i will talk to you all next week, and hey jeanette write me! its been a while. and listen to Cudi for me this week.

love yall,
corban
